OLD GAELIC PUTS BRAKES ON BREAKERS

Old Gaelic (4-0, 3-0 EPRU-III) started October with a full head of steam.  The hosts shot from the gate, sprinting to a 45-0 at halftime and cruised to a 55-5 victory over Wilkes-Barre last Saturday at Williams Grove. The Black and Gold looks to avenge last year’s come-from-ahead defeat when it completes its current home stand against Second City Troop at the Grove this Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Griffins struck quickly off a line-out inside the Breaker 10 when Curtis Brillhart hooked up with Travis Smith on a short throw and the Gaelic anchor plowed in for the score.

Skipper Dan Roth followed with an unassisted marker before Scott Lindsey found the zone thanks to a splendiferous dish by John Kroesen.

The onslaught continued when scrum half Mark Olivetti took a feed from Brillhart and zigzagged to paydirt. Moments later, Brian Ogle scored on a nifty bounce pass from Roth.

Old Gaelic exhibited excellent execution on its next scoring foray when Alex Diegel took a long lob on a lineout and fed Olivetti for the try after an impressive maul. Lindsey completed the first half frenzy thanks to an assist by James Oliverio.

After intermission, Wes Beard covered a missed drop kick and Chris Botto danced in for the dot-down to complete the scoring and set the stage for wholesale substitutions.

THIS AND THAT

There was no “B” game but should be this weekend. Jack and Matt Kranchick played second row together in the second half. Matt is headed to Pittsburgh with his fiancée. We wish them all the best. It was great to see Dave Saporito, John Lyons, J J Glahn, Gary and Shirley Miley and lots of other friends. Word has it that Second City sent scouts to last week’s game. Luckily, we still have plenty of arrows in our quiver.
