THE NOSE
Good game. Bad break.
Any joy over a 99-3 defeat of Whitehorse on Saturday in Phoenixville was tempered by the injury to scrumhalf Mark Olivetti. The first-year starter for Old Gaelic earned “Man of the Match” honors for his play and suffered a fractured leg in the final five minutes of the contest. We wish Mark a speedy recovery! This setback will test the club’s mettle.
Despite a late-arriving squad and a tepid start, the Grififns soon got rolling.
Skipper Dan Roth, who scored a team-record 38 points and added a team-record five assists, started the fusillade with a penalty kick. Then, Roth fed Scott Lindsey for back-to-back scores before finding the zone himself on an Olivetti assist. Roth dished to John Kroesen, who powered, in before Curtis Brillhart hustled down a Brian Ogle chip-ahead from wing for the dot-down.
Roth and Lindsey collaborated again to make it 45-0. Whitehorse drilled a penalty kick to get on the board. Kroesen dished to Roth and the tally was 52-3 at intermission.
Old Gaelic added 47 points in the second half. Olivetti had two tries and two assists in the frame. Alex Diegle, Ken Ivey, Brian Ogle, Roth and Lindsey had tries. Ogle, Roth and Lindsey had assists.
Lindsey finished with four tries and one assist (alternate headline was “Filling Fullback Feeds Fix with Four”) and Olivetti had three assists and two tries in the stat fest.

Thanks to 24 players for making the trip to Phoenixville. We enjoyed a tour of Collegeville en route to the party at Juno’s. Mark reported good treatment at the local hospital. Keep in your thoughts and prayers. Let’s continue our November quest this Saturday at Lehigh Valley!
