LANCASTER ROSES (5/14)

Seismic shock waves reverberated throughout the rugby world when Old
Gaelic sprung a 16-8 upset over The Roses, the current MARFU Division II
champions who just finished fourth -- in the nation.
The visitors opened the scoring on a penalty kick by Andy Carroll.  Old
Gaelic knotted it when Roth answered in kind.  The Roses turned the
corner and dotted down, but missed the conversion.  Old Gaelic took a
surprising 10-8 lead at the half when Scott Lindsay raced in a muff and
Roth added the kick.
Tenacious D and a pair of Roth penalty kicks -- the second from 50
meters out-- sealed the victory and the expansion -- however ephemeral
-- of our hegemonic sphere.
Coach Eric Helman thanked Old Gaelic for the "wake-up call" and the
Roses promptly won their next to games to clinch the regional at Rhode
Island.
Lancaster extracted a small measure of revenge with a 12-10 decision in
the "B" clash, despite a penalty kick by Roth and a last-second try by
Brian Ogle (assist to Chris Speese).
